CWS Patios and Paving, Trawden
In our village, there is a community owned library and shop. The library was closed by the Counci and the last shop had closed. We were very fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who pushed for an asset transfer of the building and opened it, after a lot of work.
The Parish Council purchased a wooden-clad portacabin and the Trustees allowed them to locate it to the rear of the building, creating a central hub. The Trustees also purchased the same cabin and as there was no paths to these cabins, I was tasked with making both buildings accessible.
I extended the existing path down the side of building, created a new path to the rear to both structures and extended the area inside the compound so the buildings are now accessible from inside the library.
A lovely trip to Bispham!
The customer wanted the flagged driveway and artificial grass removing to make a double drive to create more off-street parking.
They chose some Tobermore block pave, in different colours and sizes to add some interest.
This is another renovation carried out at a new housing estate in Barrow near Whalley.
The builders create a basic usable garden, but the contour of the garden was perfect for creating a raised planter and patio area. I needed a little extra man-power for the digging out and moving of supplies, so my daughter and her boyfriend helped me out. They worked incredibly hard.
The property that this job was completed on has had a significant amount of work to extend it. It needed patio, paths, steps and drains installing.
Another job that has been completed in Whalley. This took 4 weeks from start to finish. The old patio and paths were removed around the whole house and replaced with Raj flags. The border finishes his project off beautifully. The customer wanted the area around the tree, as a focal point. They're exceptionally pleased with how the job turned out.
I was fortunate enough to gain another 2 jobs on the estate in Whalley. These were neighbours who lived in very similar houses, but wanted something slightly different. this is the first.
This is the second of the two recently completed at Whalley.
A small front and rear paving replacement job at a terraced property. Done in grey.
This is a small front garden area and path that needed a bit of TLC. They wanted the garden all one level so that they could use it for their lovely plant pots that they already had. The path needed to match, and they were so pleased with the result.
In the village where we live, there is a set of Historic Tram Tracks, that are all cobble setts.
The Parish Council took ownership of these in 2017, from the Borough Council, in order to ensure they were protected from decay. They are in the process of listing them, but as they are an access to a small number of properties, they have suffered some sinking and some of the setts have split.
The Parish Council put this job out to tender but there was little interest in completing it, as it is very time consuming. One of the Councillors is passionate about preserving the setts, so was on hand to assist and learn how to re-set the cobbles. They asked for the tarmac at the side to be replaced, so that it encourages this small number of vehicles to drive on this, instead of the tracks. I have good contacts with a very reputable tarmac company, so they carried this work out.
Here is a job that I completed near to where we live.
This job was a big one! The customer wanted to be able to make the garden more usable.
She'd had a large extension to her bungalow and the garden, as it was on a slope, make it difficult to use. There was steps to the far side that she wanted rid of, to extend the patio so she could put up a summer house. As it was traditional York Stone, she wanted this matched to. It's difficult to work with, as all the stone is a natural different depth.
She wanted very little grass and we installed a wildlife pond and a glass rail to the raised patio, as there is a huge drop. The dry stone wall needed rebuilding as it was collapsing. I got a specialist to do this for me, and excavated to the back of the wall and built a block retaining wall so it didn't happen again.
This was just a small job where he customer already had the stone circle, but wanted the slate replacing withconcrete so that their young son could play out, on his bike.
Difficult access, but I worked around that.
This customer put out a post on social media, asking if anyone could make a recommendation to replace the drive.
The drive was flagged, but as it was on a slope, they found that it became very slippery and dangerous, in a short space of time. I took up the flags and replaced with block paving. They also asked me to continue this across the front of the house, so it all matched.
This job was for a very good friend of mine. They took a while to decide what flags they wanted, but I hope that you agree, that they were a very good choice. It looked amazing.
I occasionally sub-contract to a local builder, and this job was one of those.
The flags needed relaying and they wanted the patio making bigger, with matching stone.
This was a replacement of gravel to the old York Stone flags. Exceptionally heavy but stunning when completed.
